Thank you so much for the warnings. How incredibly frustrating and aggravating!! I'm so sorry. The same sad story is emerging in the Intuit forums. QB 2009 is faring no better in SL than 2007. If you follow some of the links in the more official posts you get the sense that Intuit caught completely oblivious to SL until Friday but is working on a fix for 2009. They are giving no sense of when it will be ready.
I had an older Mac that will not update past 10.5.8 due to it being a PowerPC (G4) processor, instead of an Intell processor like they all are now, so I bought an older version of Quick Books (2007) one because I found it to be compatible. Premier Enterprise. Office Accounting & prior QuickBooks versions. 2 Outlook integration requires Outlook or Outlook Express 2002, 2003, 2007 or 2010.
They are being vague and noncommittal regarding whether or not they are going to fix 2007 at all. QuickBooks 2007 does not work in Snow Leopard. The Bank Account Register appears to be corrupt with bad dates and bad amounts.
However, the data is not corrupt. If you click on the register entry, the data suddenly changes to the correct information. And all reports relating to the Bank Account Register are correct. But how do you work in a register that appears to be totally corrupt. I've used QuickBooks for many years but I have had enough. It obvious Intuit doesn't really want to support us Mac users.
Maybe it's time us Mac users stop supporting Intuit. I have not yet upgraded to Snow Leopard.
If I had, not only would I not be able to use QBP 2007 but MacSpeech, Thunderbird, Missing Sync for Blackberry, and my 4 month old Canon laser multifunction. I am awaiting SL compatible updates on all of this software before I switch.
Canon may not have drivers for my machine until October. No one has given any hard and fast dates for updates.
This software is critical to my business - Snow Leopard is not. I am plenty frustrated - at Apple and at the developers of my applications, but I am willing to live with that frustration and not jeopardize my ability to earn a living. SL would be fun but I am actually quite happy with my Mac as is, and look forward to playing with SL in a month or 2, hopefully. With regard to alternatives to QB, sadly, I have not found one. I would love to take my business elsewhere and have been trying software and searching forums for alternatives, but have not found anything that will work as well for me.
If anyone else has found something else they like I would love to know about it and would switch in a second if I could. I read that Microsoft is phasing out MS Money, so even on the Windows side Intuit is the dominant application. Well, that's how am handling all of this. Not entirely happy about it but still feeling very fortunate to have Leopard 1.5 and my Mac. It seems like the best course for now. Also feel very fortunate to have these forums and am so appreciative of everyone's comments and concerns.
It's wonderful that we can come together and support each other. I also found some consolation in this article. I spent (wasted) more time troubleshooting the QB 2007 corrupted Bank Register record problem. Some good news actually. Configuration info: MacBooks Pro 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM running Snow Leopard. QuickBooks for Mac 2007 with company configured for accrual accounting. Problem: Checking Account and Money Market Account register records appear to contain corrupt dates and values.
But when the record is selected, the date and value appear correct. Using two different company files I ran FileUtilitiesVerify that failed with instructions to run FileUtilitiesRebuild Data. The Rebuild corrected the corruption in the 1st company file. I had to manually correct the data in the 2nd company file. (Note: these files also failed the Verify on another Mac running Leopard.) Once the Verify passed, the Bank Account Register data appeared correct. I created many of the common financial reports and all appeared correct.
I even converted a company file from a QB 2007 for Windows user that was created using the Mac Backup command. This converted file exhibited the same corrupted register data symptom. The file also failed the Verify. After a Rebuild, the file passed the Verify. Once it passed the Verify, the register data no longer appeared corrupted. That's as far as I've gotten so far.
Next I'll try to pay some bills and see if the new Checking Account records show any corruption. Apple Footer.
